The rule of eight, also known as the octet rule, is used to determine the combining capacity of several chemical elements by the German chemist Walther Kossel and the American chemist GilbertNewton Lewis.
The two elements that fail to complete an octet are boron and aluminum, they both form compounds in which they have six electrons.
