There is no limit on how many outlets there are. There are 10 outlets on a 20A breaker. Plugging into outlets does not increase the load on a circuit. You need to plan what you want to plug into those outlets.
14 AWG can’t be used on a circuit with a 20A breaker. The screw terminals are the better choice if you want to put 15 Amp receptacle on a 20 Amp circuit.
Rules of Tubb. The rules of thumb are: 12 gauge wire is good for 20 Amp, 10 gauge is good for 30 Amp, 8 gauge is good for 40 Amp, and 6 gauge is good for 55 Amp.
The National Electrical Code states that there is no limit to the number of receptacles that can be placed on a 20-amp circuit. One way to prevent overloading the breaker is to run appliances that draw less current than the breaker can handle.
If the breaker is labeled otherwise, it should not handle more than 80 percent of the load. The total current draw on a 20-amp circuit should be no more than 16 Amps.
In most circuits, only one outlet is likely to be in use at any one time, so it’s a good strategy to spread as many as possible around the house on a single circuit to guarantee power where you need it One rule of thumb is to assign a maximum draw of 1.5 Amp to each receptacle, which will allow for 10 receptacle on a 20-amp circuit.
