Peter Henlein, a clockmaker from Nuremberg, invented the first watch. In the 15th century, he created a clock watch. Many other clockmakers created similar devices around the same time.
The first mechanical clock was invented in Europe in the 14th century and was the standard timekeeping device until the pendulum clock was invented in 1656 Many components came together over time to give us modern-day timekeeping.
